Cocktail Party Problem
The challenge of isolating one sound source, like a single voice, from a mix of many competing sounds.
The cocktail party problem is the classic description of audio source separation: the challenge of focusing on or isolating a single source, such as one person's voice, amid many competing sounds, just as a person can follow one conversation in a noisy room. It has long been a benchmark challenge in audio research. Modern AI source separation is, in effect, a machine solution to the cocktail party problem.
