Near-field

Speech or audio captured close to the microphone, giving a strong, clean signal.

Near-field refers to audio captured close to the microphone, such as a handheld or headset mic, which yields a strong signal with relatively little room reverberation or background noise. It contrasts with far-field capture, where distance makes the target harder to isolate. Near-field input generally gives the cleanest starting point for recognition and enhancement.
