Object-Based Audio

Audio built from individual sound objects with positional data, rendered to any speaker layout.

Object-based audio represents a soundtrack as a collection of individual audio objects, each with metadata describing its position and movement, rather than as fixed channels. A renderer then places each object appropriately for whatever playback system the listener has, from headphones to a full immersive setup. It is the foundation of formats like Dolby Atmos, and authoring it from legacy content requires separated stems.
