Distortion
Any unwanted alteration of an audio signal that degrades its quality, such as clipping or harshness.
Distortion is any unwanted change to an audio signal that makes it deviate from a faithful reproduction of the original, from harshness and crackle to the flattening caused by clipping. It can be introduced during recording, transmission, compression, or processing. Some distortion is applied intentionally as an effect, but in most contexts minimizing it is a core quality goal.
