Music Clearance

Obtaining legal permission to use a piece of music in a specific context.

Music clearance is the process of securing the rights to use a specific piece of music in a given context, such as a film, ad, broadcast, or digital release. It often requires clearing both the composition and the recording, and rights for one medium (e.g., broadcast) may not extend to another (e.g., streaming). Identifying exactly what music appears in content, which detection and fingerprinting enable, is the first step in clearance and in removing or replacing unlicensed tracks.
