The legacy analog-era closed caption standard, also called line-21 captions.
CEA-608 (also EIA-608) is the original US closed captioning standard, historically carried on line 21 of the analog NTSC signal. It supports a limited character set and up to four caption channels, and still appears in broadcast and file-based workflows for backward compatibility.
