Closed Captions

Viewer-toggleable text of dialogue and audio, transmitted separately from the picture.

Closed Captions are a text representation of speech and relevant sounds that viewers can switch on or off, carried as a separate data track (e.g. CEA-608/708). They are distinct from open captions, which are permanently visible, and are mandated for much broadcast and OTT content for accessibility.
