Codec
An algorithm that encodes and decodes audio or video, usually with compression.
A Codec (coder-decoder) compresses media for storage or transmission and reconstructs it for playback, trading off quality, bitrate, and complexity. Broadcast and OTT rely on codecs such as AAC, AC-3, and AC-4 for audio, and choosing them is central to delivery specs.
