Phase
The timing relationship between waveforms; misalignment can cause cancellation and a thinner sound.
Phase describes the timing relationship between two or more audio waveforms. When signals are in phase they reinforce each other; when out of phase they can partially or fully cancel, producing a thin, hollow, or weakened sound. Phase matters whenever multiple microphones or channels are combined, and phase issues can affect the quality of mixing, upmixing, and separation.
