Reverb

The persistence of sound in a space as it reflects off surfaces; too much reduces clarity.

Reverb (reverberation) is the lingering of sound in a space as it bounces off walls, floors, and objects after the source stops. A little adds warmth and depth, but too much muddies a recording and hurts intelligibility, especially for dialogue and far-field speech. De-reverb is the process of reducing it.
