Intelligibility
How clearly speech can be understood in a recording, especially amid noise or distortion.
Intelligibility measures how easily speech in a recording can be understood, particularly when degraded by noise, distortion, reverberation, or competing sound. Improving it is critical in accessibility, telecommunications, forensics, and emergency response, where understanding what was said matters more than fidelity. Speech enhancement and separation can recover intelligible speech from otherwise unusable recordings.
