Turn-taking
The natural back-and-forth exchange of speaking turns in a conversation, human or with a voice agent.
Turn-taking is the pattern by which participants in a conversation alternate between speaking and listening. For voice AI, modeling it well, knowing when the user has finished and when to respond, is what makes an interaction feel natural rather than stilted or interruptive. It draws on voice activity detection, endpointing, and low voice latency.
