VAD (Voice Activity Detection)

Technology that detects when human speech is present in an audio stream versus silence or noise.

Voice Activity Detection (VAD) identifies which parts of an audio stream contain human speech as opposed to silence, noise, or non-speech sound. It is a foundational building block for voice systems, used to trigger recording or recognition, save processing, and support turn-taking and endpointing. Accurate VAD is harder in noisy or far-field conditions, where clean input helps.
