Signal
A representation of sound as it varies over time, as an electrical voltage or digital samples.
In audio, a signal is the representation of sound as it varies over time, whether as an electrical voltage or a stream of digital samples; essentially any audio waveform is a signal. The term recurs throughout audio processing, for example in signal-to-distortion ratio, which measures how much of a separated stem is the desired signal versus unwanted artifacts.
